Credit Repair Legends, Fallacies And Truthfulness

Published by Guest Author under Debt Consolidation

The FCRA or the Fair Credit Reporting Act gives consumers the right to dispute any items showing on their credit report, including bankruptcies and foreclosures, that may be erroneous, untimely, incomplete, false, unverifiable, prejudiced, indefinite or unclear. This law gives you the right to credit repair.

False identities, incorrect balances, untimely listing, overly ambiguous listings and more commonly show up on credit reports. You can dispute anything that shows up on your credit for any reason if you feel that it is not absolutely accurate. After you issue a dispute the creditor and the credit bureau have a certain amount of time to substantiate the accurateness of the listing. If it cannot be verified within the time frame then it must be removed from your account.

However, the FCRA does not give you the right to “debt repair”. If there is a legally binding and truthful debt showing on your credit you cannot legally get it removed. When you owe a debt you are responsible for it until it is paid off. Credit repair cannot be used in a case of someone trying to evade a legitimate debt.

Many times there are critics who tend to mistake the two issues. Debt repair is not permissible nor is it lawful, however, credit repair is a valid and practical service that many people can gain from. The trouble arises when critics and others mistake the two.

Credit repair does not give you the right to have a legal, legitimate and accurate listing on your report to be deleted. However, many times the listings are incorrect, ambiguous, misleading, unverifiable, biased and outdated and in that case you have every right to dispute it and get it removed. Valid debts however, legally must stay.

When you have debt tribulations you can do a few authorized things. You can pay down the debt or you can pay if off. You have the choice to combine all of your debt into one, fixed rate loan. You can also talk to your creditors and see if they would be willing to settle your debt. This may relieve you of your debt but it could also give you bad credit.

But credit repair cannot be used to get out of paying a legitimate debt. Credit repair is for erroneous credit but it cannot legally be used for debt repair. However, do not let this discourage you from taking advantage of your rights to credit repair. If you have negative or erroneous credit you have the right to try to get it removed.

You can issue disputes and do credit repair on your own or you can use a legitimate credit repair organization. There are a few superior companies that operate within full observance of the law. These companies offer a helpful and beneficial service that can help you clean up your credit if you have listings that are inaccurate, misleading, incomplete, biased, or ambiguous.
