Money-saving tips are something everyone can put into practice and save hundreds, even thousands yearly. They will improve your personal lifestyle and stretch your money .

You can save over $100 by finding a checking account that has no service charges and has no minimum balance. You’ll save more by ordering your checks on the internet rather than of at your bank.

What can amount to a large savings that continue year after year is to carefully check your property taxes. They are often in error and to compound matters, most people believe that “assessment” equals “actual market value”. It does not. Obtain the equalization rate or sales ratio. Your town may use other terminology. Divide the sales ratio into the assessed value to discover the “actual” market value that the tax assessor says your home is worth. Find a realtor for comparable property sales that are similar to your home in size and locale. Get Xerox copies from MLS (multiple listing service) recent sales. You will MLS photocopies since it is “buyer” orientated and includes information not found in automated sites that will be necessary to make significant adjustments. Adjustments will be for age, updated kitchen, bath, a new roof, decks and other related features. Compare the evidence “sold” values to the “real” market value that the tax assessor placed on your home. If the difference is great, appeal your assessment.

Your car is another area you can save money. A tuned engine improves gas mileage by 4 percent, properly inflated tires by 3.3 percent, proper grade motor oil by 1-2 percent, clean air filter by 2-6 percent but, if it is real dirty, up to 14 percent.

Just shopping around for low-cost auto insurance can save you a bundle. Look for your state’s low-priced insurance companies and compare similar plan options. You can lower your insurance bill up to 25% by moving your deductible higher.

With credit cards, avoid stacking up late payment fees and possible interest rate increases. Send in your payment a week to ten days prior the statement due date. You do not want to risk having increased fees and interest rates on other cards. Whenever possible, do not allow finance charges on credit cards.

Buy more unprocessed food products to save money. Employ store discount cards and cut coupons to save money on groceries. Take a calculator with you to the grocery store to keep track of the totals and avoid purchasing impulse items. Compare the quality of store brands with more popular ones. . Buy sale items in bulk

Dining out can get pricey. Think about splitting your meal and/or dessert. Drinking water helps keep expenses down the bill. By adding a few sugar packets on the table turns lemon water into free lemonade. And, always, look for special deals especially for franchised eateries.
